Goodbye, California
February 15th was our official last day of work. It's crazy to think how long we'd lived in the Yay Area at this point: almost 6 years for Soph, and nearly 12 years for me. Saying bye (for now!) to all our friends at work was - well, a bummer. Leaving finally started to feel... real.
Packing up and last hurrahs
The move itself was pretty breezy. We minimized the need to pack by throwing most everything in the goodwill pile, and our parents come down for a few days to help us out (thanks so much!). They even helped us complete our cork collection!
I made sure to take one last ride to Philz before putting the shredcycle on ice (don't worry, she ain't gone for good).
Kyle and Phil came down on our final night for one last hurrah. We cracked some Big Chicken...
... tromped around with the boomchode...
.. and succesfully launched a rocket a hundred feet into the air.
And only one cop drove by during the filming of the above scene. Win!
The long ride north
We got up Tuesday morning at the deepest buttcrack of dawn, we hopped into our nearly empty monstrosity of a ride (apparently you can only attach car hitches to the big vans), and we bombed straight North. I have nothing much to report other than that driving this thing is pretty much zero fun.
Ah, that trusty Oregon weather. Snow in February? Why not?
Chillin' with friends and family
In the spirit of the weather Oregon welcomed with, we spent the next week or so spending as much time as possible chillin' with friends and family. The highlight of our stay was getting to see Leeloo...
... and having Kirby and Ashley ask us to be her godparents! A huge honor and an obvious yes!!
