The land of beer, beaches, and a babe named Athena

After spending an entire month in Prague, it was time to stretch our exploration legs once more. We kicked things off in Denmark, where Mirek and I were lucky enough to be graced with the presence of the one and only Athena Torres!

Day 1: MUST... TRY... ALL... THE... BEER...

You might know that Mikkeller beer comes from Denmark. But did you know that Mikkeller brewing owns Denmark? Seriously: Mikkeller is taking over Denmark... and we were not upset about it.

It was very hot in Denmark. Exhibit A: Mirek's nicely forming pit stain

Our first stop had to be Mikkeller Bar. As you can probably tell by now, we throughly enjoy their beer. It's so good that even a whiskey drinker like Athena might crave it from time to time.

After getting our (temporary) fill of beer, we decided we should probably try to see the city some. Without any particular destination in mind, we stumbled upon an outdoor music venue, Byhaven - Pumpehuset, that had one epic metal band.

This is Mirek's death metal face

We rocked until we could rock no more, and eventually rolled over to a bar called Himmeriget. It's a small bar with a huge menu and we loved it. If you enjoy sours, krieks, lambics, and other beers of this sort, this is your type of bar.

At about 4PM, soaked in sours and with our solid buzz in tow, we headed off for more meandering with no actual destination.

While walking, we came upon a massive pond in the middle of the city called Sankt Jørgens Sø.

At the end of the first day, we decided to top it off with a visit to the playground. Bet you can't guess which one of us played the child?

Now, what they don't tell you about Denmark is that walking while tipsy can be a health hazard. Since Denmark is so bicycle friendly, they have MULTIPLE curb-levels on their streets. This means you have to step down not one but TWO curbs when crossing the street. I can't tell you how many times both Athena and I almost fell. However, on the way to the park, almost turned into definitely.

Street: 1, Athena: 0

Day 2: MMMM... Farmers market (and beer)

After one exciting beer day, we decided to actually see something other than beer in Denmark. Our first stop was at Torvehallerne Market.

blah

This is a huge, half-indoor, half-outdoor market. It has everything you could ever want, which made for an amazing lunch.

Denmark takes Smörgåsbord to a whole new level

Feeling satisfied, we walked to the Rosenborg Slot castle, located in the middle of a huge park in the middle of the city.

We also made checked out the oceanfornt, which has an assortment of gorgeous old-school Danish buildings.

Feeling proud about our day of exploration, we decided a beer was now well-deserved. Our renewed quest for deliciousness had us stumble upon some epic street art. And who can refuse a good photo op?

I'm not quite sure what Mirek is doing here; we decided it's probably best to not talk about it

And then, at last, we found it. The beer we had been searching for. Enter: Warpigs Brewpub. We enjoyed this place so much we might have gone more than once.

Is this place also connected to Mikkeller? Why yes, yes it is

Day 3: BEACH DAY!

A beach day... in Denmark? I didn't believe it either. However, just take a short ride on the metro and you will be surrounded by sand, sun, and sea. We made a quick stop at Torvehallerne Market for supplies, and had ourselves the chillest of picnics by the Copenhagen shore.

By evening we were feeling somewhat burnt out on beer (if that can really happen), so we decided to try our luck with some cocktails. After all, when the queen of cocktails is with you, it's a necessity.

Fine Mirek, you win. Who knew beets in a smoothie cocktail would be good? But I think you're doing it wrong.

In sum: if you like beer, you'll love Denmark. If not, they have damn good cocktails too.
